THE BRIEF

Create a motion video centred around mental health, inspiring people to take action or spark thoughts that can make a difference.

MOTION

ART DIRECTION

‘We often feel hopeless, stuck, and alone. Feelings of not feeling worthy is a common thing within our age group and it’s people around us who help us through tough times. Communicating and voicing our struggles makes it better. Therefore, we decided to move on following our character Bob in his journey. To resemble the darkness we have created a world of black and white. Throughout our story, Bob is faced with little interactions that give him colour. Little simple things like a bird song, the first bloom of flowers, or talking to a friend. Our message is the little things matter.’

CONCEPT

EXPRESSING EMOTION VISUALLY

We wanted to tell a story through our visuals as well as our narrative, our dark desaturated world to represent our character's outlook on life in contrast to the bright colourful things he encounters, the chaotic moving textures symbolizing his panic and anxiety and his 2D form in the 3D world showing he is disconnected from the things around him.

COMBINING DIGITAL AND
PHYSICAL DESIGN

Our unique visual style was made with the combination of digital and physical art, allowing us to express our own emotions into the final outcome as well as give our visuals depth and personality that could not have been achieved through a digital-only style of motion.

Whilst all of the environments were made in 3D and digital software, every frame of the characters were physically painted.
